Department of Culture: Hamsa Awards

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has been presenting 'Hamsa Awards' since 1999, to artists with outstanding contribution in the fields of Literature, Music, dance, Painting/Sculpture, and Folk Arts/Tribal Arts. Each award carries a cash prize of Rs. 30,000/- a gold plated Hamsa memento, a shawl and citation signed by Honorable Chief Minister, who is the chief patron of the council. For the year 2003 the Government has constituted a screening committee with Dr. C. Narayana Reddy, M.P., as Chairman, Justice K. Punnaiah and Prof G.V. Subrahmanyam, Vice-Chancellor, Potti Sriramulu Telugu University as the members and Sri.Arja Srikanth, I.R.T.S., Director of Culture as convenor. The 5th Hamsa awards presentation function was organized jointly by the A.P. State Cultural Council and Department of Culture on 1st August, 2003.

  1. Sahithi Puraskarams

    This award is given to 14 persons for their outstanding contribution to Telugu Literature with a cash prize Rs. 10,116/- each by Pottisree Ramulu University.

  2. Prathiba Puraskarams

    The award is given to 11 persons who have rendered service of high excellence in drama, poetry, prose, novel and fine arts carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,116/- each by Pottisree Ramulu Telugu University.

  3. Visista Puraskarams

    This award is given to only one person for his excellence in fine arts, Telugu literature and cultural activities. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-.

  4. Dharmanidhi Pursakarams

    This pursakaram is given from the interest money accruing on endowments. The award is given to 25 persons for their excellence in different fields. The Dharmanidhi Puraskaram carries a cash prize of Rs. 1,116/- each by Pottisreeramulu Telugu University.

  5. State Level Award (Chitrakala)

    This prestigious award, which carries a cash prize of Rs.10,000/- is given to a person for his distinguish painting. The award is given to 10 persons for their works.
